HC Deb 19 March 1917 vol 91 cc1534-5
22. Mr. WING

asked the Minister of Labour what is the present number of disabled men whose names are on the lists of the Employment Exchanges throughout the United Kingdom as applying for employment, and for how many men so enrolled work has been found since 1st January?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Bridgeman)

The number of discharged soldiers and sailors on the registers of the Employment Exchanges on 9th February, 1917, was 2,886, and the number for whom employment has been found through the Exchanges during the period from 8th December to 9th February was 5,160. The total number for whom employment has been found through the Exchanges from April last until 9th February is about 50,000. Separate figures cannot be given for disabled men as such, but it may be assumed that the great majority of the men above referred to were suffering from some form of disablement.
