HC Deb 15 March 1917 vol 91 c1259
Mr. SAMUEL ROBERTS

(by Private Notice) asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether, in view of the urgent necessity for the immediate sowing of spring crops, he will take such steps as may be necessary to encourage Sunday labour; and, for the furtherance of that object, will endeavour to secure the sanction of ministers of religion?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Sir Richard Winfrey)

The President has already taken such steps, by correspondence with his Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury, as will be seen by the correspondence published in the newspapers this morning. It is hoped that this expression of opinion may be followed by similar declarations from other religious denominations.

Mr. EUGENE WASON

May I ask the hon. Gentleman if he has consulted the Moderator of the Established Church of Scotland and the Moderator of the United Free Church?

Mr. PRINGLE

And the Wee Free Church?

Sir R. WINFREY

The agriculture of Scotland does not come under the English Board.
