HC Deb 15 March 1917 vol 91 c1277
81. Mr. DUNCAN MILLAR

asked the Minister of Munitions if he has taken expert advice as to whether the stocks of spirits at present in hand can be made available for the purpose of manufacturing explosives; and whether, having regard to the necessity for conserving food materials, he will consider as to stopping the further manufacture of alcohol for munition purposes until the existing stocks of spirits, so far as available for that purpose, have been exhausted?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of MUNITIONS (Sir Worthington Evans)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The whole matter is receiving careful consideration.

Mr. MILLAR

Are any spirits in bond at present being used for that purpose?

Sir W. EVANS

I believe not, but the whole matter is being dealt with.
