HC Deb 14 March 1917 vol 91 cc1093-4
82. Mr. D. MILLAR

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade what financial arrangements have been entered into by the Controller of Mines with the mine-owners in connection with the taking over of the mines, and how the profits earned under the new scheme will be allocated?

Mr. ROBERTS

I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. MILLAR

May I ask whether, in point of fact, arrangements have not yet been completed with regard to this matter and whether statements have appeared in the Press on the subject, and will he take an opportunity of informing the House at the earliest possible moment of those arrangements?

Mr. ROBERTS

I think statements have appeared in the Press intimating arrangements which have been made so far. I am willing to convey to the House any information in my possession.

Mr. MILLAR

Why will the hon. Member not convey to the House the information I have asked for in the question?

Mr. ROBERTS

My hon. Friend has already admitted that such information has appeared in the Press.

83. Mr. MILLAR

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade what arrangements have been made by the Controller of Mines for the settlement of questions relating to wages and conditions of employment arising between mine owners and their employés while the mines are under State control.

Mr. ROBERTS

As I stated in reply to my hon. Friend's question of the 12th March, no alteration has been made in the existing arrangements as to wages. The conciliation boards in the different districts continue to deal with any questions that may arise with regard thereto.
