HC Deb 07 March 1917 vol 91 c366
19. Mr. P. MEEHAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether any steps have been taken to release men from the Army, permanently or temporarily, who are required in Ireland to carry out the scheme of increased tillage under the food-production scheme?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

There is no general scheme for such a purpose in contemplation. But each case has been and will be decided on its merits.

Mr. MEEHAN

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether a decision will be given immediately on application? There have been numerous applications sent in, many of them a month ago, and nothing has yet been done.

Mr. MACPHERSON

I understand each case is decided as soon as possible.
