HC Deb 07 March 1917 vol 91 cc394-5
97. Mr. C. WASON

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the fact that persons supplying drink in Orkney and Shetland are liable to severe penalties, he will fall in with the attitude of the Board of Control and take the necessary steps to prevent his Department assisting persons to evade the law?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I have explained by letter to the hon. Member what the position is with regard to the transmission of liquor by post to prohibited areas. So far as I am aware, liquor is not being sent by post in contravention of any Order issued by the Central Control Board under the Defence of the Realm Regulations, but if the hon. Member will supply me with full particulars of any postal packet sent in contravention of that Order, I will have inquiry made.
