HC Deb 06 March 1917 vol 91 cc199-200
75. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary what is the approximate aggregate area of the non-residential grazing farms in county Roscommon and the area of the parts of them broken up for tillage this season; whether the police at Elphin are still employed protecting the Palace grass farm, the meadow on which was left uncut last year, against the young men able and willing to till it if made purchasers on the usual terms at prices to be subsequently fixed by competent official valuers; and if he can see his way, under pressure of war and consequent scarcity of food, to have the old class bias-removed from the administration of the Land Laws?

Mr. DUKE

I have no information as to-the approximate area of the non-residential grazing farms in County Roscommon, nor as to the area broken up for tillage this season. The police at Elphin are not employed in protecting the Palace grass farm, and no meadow was left uncut on the lands last year. The Congested Districts Board made an offer for the estate which includes the Palace grass farm, but the offer was refused.
