HC Deb 06 March 1917 vol 91 cc217-8
64. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Home Secretary whether he has informed the American Embassy of the fact that Dr. Patrick MacCartan, an American citizen, has been, without charge or trial, deported from Ireland and is now interned at Oxford, his only known offence being his opinion that Ireland is entitled to-representation as a distinct nation in the forthcoming International Peace Conference; and whether the American Government requires a charge to be formulated and tried in a Civil Court in this case?

Sir G. CAVE

No communications have-passed between the American Embassy and my Department with regard to this case. I may add that Dr. MacCartan is not interned.
