HC Deb 05 March 1917 vol 91 c7
4. Brigadier-General CROFT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether it is intended to restrict the import of tomatoes from the Channel Islands; and whether he is aware that this is one of the principal industries of the Channel Islands, and that, unless ships conveying food to the Channel Islands return with tomatoes they will in many cases have to return in ballast?

Mr. ROBERTS

The practice is to admit under general licence prohibited goods the produce or manufacture of the Channel Islands, provided that the importation of the same classes of goods into the Channel Islands is prohibited.
