§ 51. Mr. KINGasked the Prime Minister whether, in his attendance at the War Cabinet, on matters excluding domestic affairs of Great Britain, General Smuts is an advisor merely, or whether, equally with other members of the War Cabinet, he shares responsibility for decisions taken?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWGeneral Smuts' position has been stated clearly in answers to previous questions, and I can add nothing to the replies already given.
§ Mr. KINGThen we may take it that he accepts no responsibility for the actions and decisions taken?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWNot at all. He accepts the responsibility which necessarily comes from his giving advice or assisting us in our deliberations.
§ Mr. BONAR LAWPersonally, I should be very glad to see that course taken, but there are objections to that from General Smuts' point of view.
