HC Deb 25 June 1917 vol 95 cc27-8
58. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Prime Minister whether Reuter's Telegraphic Agency is any way subsidised or assisted by the Government; whether its messages are in any way subject to Government control or advice; and, if not, whether the censorship is exercised in regard to their messages in such a manner as to give them a partisan character?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Reuter's Agency receives no subsidy from the Government, and the Government does not interfere in any way with the independence of this service, nor is censorship exercised over their messages which is not applied to other news agencies and newspapers.

Mr. LYNCH

Is there any way of accounting for the partial character of the news they send?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have no information.
