HC Deb 25 June 1917 vol 95 cc34-5
87. Mr. JOHN O'CONNOR

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether hay sold last August to the military authorities in Ireland by certain farmers in the vicinity of the Bog of Allen, county Kildare, and delivered over six weeks ago, has not yet been paid for, although several applications for payment have been made; is he aware that hardship is caused by the delay through con sequent inability to pay rent due in May by the vendors; and will he expedite the payment of these debts?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Forster)

I understand that there were discrepancies between deliveries and contracts in the cases to which my hon. Friend refers, and inquiries are being made with a view to clearing the matter up. Of 109 purchases in county Kildare in August, 1916, I am informed that all but four have been paid for and there have been no complaints.
