HC Deb 22 June 1917 vol 94 cc2121-2
25. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Prime Minister whether legislation is necessary to enable German gentlemen of title who have become naturalised to convert their German titles into English titles; if so, whether the privilege will be extended so as to allow free interchange of surnames in the cases of Germans well disposed to this country; and whether, if it be found that the principle would apply in the case of any Germans now interned, they will be restored to liberty?

Sir G. CAVE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative; other parts, therefore, do not arise.

Mr. LYNCH

Why should these great privileges be reserved for one branch of the community and not extended to others, if they are in the public interest?
