HC Deb 22 June 1917 vol 94 c2119
3. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is now in a position to announce the release from restriction of all those deported from Ireland without charge or trial or restricted to specified areas; what are the intentions of the Government with reference to deportees who have not stayed in the areas to which they were restricted; and whether the general amnesty of political prisoners extends to all in prison for offences purely political, such as Peter O'Keeffe and Tadg Barry, of Cork?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Duke)

As to the first part of the question, I have nothing to add to the answer I gave the hon. Member on Monday. The two persons mentioned in the concluding part of the question were not imprisoned for complicity in the rebellion.

Mr. GINNELL

May I ask whether this serious and moderate request will be reconsidered favourably by the Government?

Mr. DUKE

I cannot add anything to what I have told the hon. Gentleman.

Mr. GINNELL

Does the Government expect that that callous refusal will help the coining Convention?
