HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 cc1949-50
49. Captain BURGOYNE

asked the Prime Minister whether the editors of the London daily newspapers are exempted from military service as being engaged on work of national importance; and, if so, whether he will consider the desir- ability of applying that exemption equally to the editors of technical papers dealing with the production of war material?

Mr. MACPHERSON

A number of editors of London newspapers have been exempted by tribunals from liability to military service, and the question is one for the decision of tribunals.

Mr. HOGGE

Would it not be a good idea to call up all those editors of military age who wanted conscription?
