HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 cc1934-5
14. Mr. COOTE

asked the Chief Secreretary for Ireland if he can inform the House what provision the Irish Government propose to make for the widow and three children of the late Inspector John Mills, of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, who died in hospital on the 11th instant from the effects of a blow received the evening previous at a Sinn Fein meeting held in Dublin and which he attended in the discharge of his duty and under instructions from the authorities?

16. Mr. ARTHUR SAMUELS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether the widow and children of Inspector Mills, of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, recently killed in the discharge of his duty in endeavouring to prevent the holding of an illegal meeting in Dublin, will be entitled to pensions; and, if so, what is the amount of the pension payable to each wife and child?

Mr. DUKE

I am glad that my hon. Friends have drawn attention to this matter. These people are the relatives of a most deserving officer who was pitilessly murdered in Dublin. I am in communication with the Treasury on the subject.
