HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 c1955
46. Mr. KING

asked the Prime Minister whether in view of the Foreign Office censorship on news to and from abroad having been suspended and the censorship of news by the War Office being now operative, he will explain the principles and methods of War Office control of foreign intelligence; and whether all political information, especially from Russia, which does not affect our military or naval operations will now be allowed free circulation?

The UNDER-SECRETARY Of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the control of foreign intelligence received by telegram for publication in the Press. He is mistaken in assuming that the censorship of this news is conducted by the War Office. It is entrusted to the Press Bureau.
