HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 cc1939-40
62. Mr. CLOUGH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he proposes to impose the Excess Profits Duty upon the £47,565,602 guaranteed by the Corn Production Bill to growers of wheat and oats for the years 1917 to 1922, inclusive over and above the profits realised by the same growers of wheat and oats for the years 1909 to 1914, inclusive; and, if so, can he say whether the duty will be 60 per cent, or 80 per cent, of these excess profits?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Bonar Law)

It is not intended that the Excess Profits Duty should be a permanent tax after the War.
