HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 cc1995-6
Mr. McKENNA

What will the business be for next week?

Mr. BONAR LAW

On Monday and Tuesday we shall take the Representation of the People Bill.

On Monday I hope the House will allow me to say what the business will be for the rest of the week. Perhaps it will be for the convenience of the House if I say I had hoped to take the Finance Bill next week, but I shall not be able to take it until the following week.

Colonel WEIGALL

Will the Leader of the House consider the advisability of giving a day for the Motion for the appointment of a Committee on National Expenditure before proceeding with the Finance Bill, in order to save the time of the House?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I really wish to give a day for this as soon as possible.

Colonel WEIGALL

Before the Finance Bill?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I could not say, but I hope to give a definite date before long.

Mr. GEORGE TERRELL

Is it clear that the Finance Bill will not be taken next week?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Yes. I had hoped to take it next week, but it will not be taken until the following week.

Mr. PETO

Are we to understand only the Representation of the People Bill will be taken on two days next week?

Mr. BONAR LAW

No. We hope the first three days will be devoted to that Bill next week.

Colonel C. LOWTHER

Will a day be given to the question of reprisals and labour unrest at an early date?

Mr. BONAR LAW

If I acceded to all the requests made, we should not have much time for other business. I cannot give any promise at present of a day for either of those subjects.

Mr. R. GWYNNE

When are we likely to go on with the Corn Production Bill? Can the right hon. Gentleman name a day?

Mr. PRINGLE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the remaining stages of the Munitions of War Bill will be taken?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am sorry I am unable to do so.

Colonel YATE

May I ask whether the Military Service (Conventions with Allied States) Bill will be completed in all its stages before the Finance Bill is taken?

Mr. BONAR LAW

It will be taken tomorrow, and I hope that it will not take the whole day.

Resolved, "That this House do sit Tomorrow."—[Mr. Bonar Law.]
