HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 cc1782-3
77. Mr. LOUGH

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether pressure is being brought by the Government on some of the largest distributors of tea to raise their present maximum price of 2s. 6d. per lb. so that 35 per cent, shall be sold at 2s..8d. and 25 per cent, at 3s. per lb.; and whether, having regard to the pledges of the Government with regard to the raising of prices, he can see his way to withdraw these proposals?

Mr. BR1DGEMAN

This question relates to a scheme for the control of tea prices, which it has not yet been finally decided to adopt. No Government pressure is being brought upon the distributors in the matter. The action to be taken in regard to the control of tea prices will receive the immediate consideration of the Food Controller.
