HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 c1773
35. Colonel YATE

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether the Government will now consider the question of granting a separation allowance to the wives and dependants of officers in the same manner as this allowance is granted to the wives and dependants of warrant officers, non-commissioned officers, and men?

Mr. FORSTER

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer given on the 15th instant to the hon. Member for Hertford, to which I have nothing to add.

76. Mr. TOOTILL

asked the Pensions Minister whether he intends to press the Government to set up a special organisation under the new pensions Warrant, having regard to the present delay causing dissatisfaction throughout the country; will he, if he so intends, advise that the chairman of such an organisation should be a permanent official with naval or military and industrial experience; and will he also see that one of the special duties of the new organisation is the assessment of claims to gratuities under the new Warrant?

Sir A. GRIFFITH-BOSCAWEN

I am satisfied that no advantage would be derived from duplicating the organisation which at present does this work, including the assessment of claims to gratuities to which the hon. Member specially refers. That organisation is the Pensions Ministry, which has on its staff permanent officials with military and naval experience and is in close communication with the Ministry of Labour on industrial questions.
