HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 c1761
13. Mr. LYNCH

asked whether in the first Proclamation of King Alexander of Greece he declares that he will follow and obey the mandate brilliantly traced out for him by his father; whether the King drew up the terms of this Proclamation without consultation with the Allies; and, if after such consultation, whether any particular mandate can be indicated or whether the Proclamation means that King Alexander will pursue the same line of policy as that which distinguished his father?

Mr. BALFOUR

I have inquired as to the circumstances under which this Proclamation was issued, and I would prefer meanwhile to make no statement on the subject.

Mr. LYNCH

If this new King really does follow in the footsteps of his brilliant father will he be allowed to remain so long on the throne?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is hypothetical.
