HC Deb 20 June 1917 vol 94 cc1763-4
22. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Under secretary of State for War whether he can state the number of recruits taken at the age of eighteen who have died at Chilsdon Camp?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The total number during March, April, May, and June is 34, of whom 9 died of cerebro-spinal fever, 10 of pneumonia and broncho-pneumonia, 14 of measles, and 1 of heart disease.

Mr. HOGGE

Can the hon. Gentleman say what steps have been taken in view of this high mortality among these young men?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have asked for an investigation to be made.
