HC Deb 18 June 1917 vol 94 c1423
50. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the War Office Vote has been promised for discussion for the second time in this War, and that the Board of Admiralty Vote has not been under discussion during the War nor has any opportunity been given for discussing the recent changes at the Board of Admiralty; and whether he will now give a second clay to Supply for the Navy in order to discuss the Admiralty's administration and conduct of the War?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am of opinion that the reasons which have prevented the discussion of this Vote since the outbreak of war still apply.

Commander BELLAIRS

Will my right hon. Friend state what are the reasons why the War Office, with whose administration everyone is satisfied now, is to be discussed, while the Admiralty, with which there is great dissatisfaction, is not to be discussed?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I think that the House will understand that it is not desirable that the naval policy as a whole should be discussed in this House. I should change my mind if I thought a discussion would make them quite satisfied with it, as my hon. Friend says they are with the War Office.
