HC Deb 18 June 1917 vol 94 cc1401-2
8. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether the Irish railway executive limit the quantity of fresh fish to be taken from the West of Ireland, including Roundstone, Cleggan, and Aran, to 1,000 boxes; whether such a limitation would, on the occasion of a big catch, leave much wholesome food to rot and would be particularly injurious to the Aran fishery on account of its distance from Galway; whether the limitation was imposed with the concurrence of the Ministry of Food; and whether it will be relaxed and those food-producing industries be afforded every possible facility?

Mr. ROBERTS

I am informed by the Irish Railway Executive Committee that no restriction has been imposed by them upon the quantity of fish to be accepted for conveyance from the western Irish ports, but that the shipping companies are not at present in a position to convey to Great Britain more than 1,000 boxes a day. The matter is now being investigated by the Board of Trade.
