KINLOCH-COOKEasked the Prime Minister if he will now give the total cost of the National Service Department from its institution to 30th May last, including rent, salaries, advertising, travelling expenses, and all outgoings; and will ho also give the total number of male volunteers who have accepted the employment offered them by the National Service Department?
The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of NATIONAL SERVICE (Mr. Walsh)The total outgoings of the National Service Department up to the end of May were £123,548, of which about £95,000 is non-recurring expenditure for inauguration purposes, such as the campaign for enrolling volunteers. There had been 13,000 National Service Volunteers placed in employment by the end of May, and more are being placed daily.
§ Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKECan the hon. Gentleman say how many of these men who have been found places are now in the same employment?
