HC Deb 14 June 1917 vol 94 c1109
15. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland seeing that the nine Irishmen banished from Ireland and interned at Wetherby without charge or trial had, up to the date of their latest writing, not received any subsistence allowance, if he will state the dates and amounts of any payments under that head alleged to have been made to them; whether lie will give similar information with reference to their dependants; and whether any provision is alleged to have been made for dependent mothers or sisters?

Mr. DUKE

The allowances stated by me in answer to a question of the hon. Member on the 5th of June were made available to the deportees in April last and were payable through the chief constable. I am informed that the chief constable has not yet put in his claim for reimbursement. Payments have been made to such of the dependants as needed help.

Mr. GINNELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman say why the Chief Constable has not passed the money on to those for whom it was intended?

Mr. DUKE

I have no reason to suppose that lie has not done so.
