HC Deb 13 June 1917 vol 94 c919
13. Mr. GEORGE LAMBERT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the military authorities propose to call up William John Lake, 75, High Street, Crediton, Devon; whether he is aware that this man solely, with his wife, cultivates 14½acres of land at a rental with rates of over £70 a year and that he milks eight cows, supplies 130 customers with milk, and keeps 24 ewes and lambs, besides pigs and poultry; and whether the milk supply in the country this winter is likely to be so abundant that skilled dairymen can be spared from their business?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

I have called for a report in this case, and will inform my right hon. Friend as soon as I am in a position to do so.
