HC Deb 13 June 1917 vol 94 cc923-4
32. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether his attention has been called to the case of a middle-aged blind woman, named Tatfield, who appeared at the Blooms-bury County Court to answer a claim for rent amounting to £3 5s.; whether he has seen the statement of this blind woman that three children were dependent on her; that her eldest son was in the Army, and that in March her remaining son, who kept the home going, was also taken by the military; that since that time she had not received a penny from the War Office, although she had written repeatedly; whether he is aware that the registrar stated that a most undesirable state of things had been revealed; whether representations have been made to him; and what action has been taken in the matter?

Mr. FORSTER

No representation has reached me, but I have ascertained that applications have been made to the Paymasters concerned, who are necessarily awaiting the report of the local pension authority. Meanwhile Mrs. Tatfield has been drawing the allotment of each of her sons, and, in addition, an advance of 10s. a week, from the Local War Pensions Committee.
