HC Deb 12 June 1917 vol 94 cc767-8
38. Mr. C. WASON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he is aware that owing to the extreme irregularity of the train service to the North, Naval Reserve men and soldiers are cut short of leave; and if he will either give them longer leave or afford them every facility possible to reach their homes?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

As regard naval reservists, a train is run regularly to meet naval requirements. It keeps fairly good time, and naval reservists going on and returning from leave to the South travel by this train. Those who travel to parts of the country where the difficulties of reaching their homes are abnormal are given an extra amount of leave to compensate for this, on the basis of a certain fixed time at their homes.
