HC Deb 12 June 1917 vol 94 cc766-7
53. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Prime Minister if he will grant a day for the discussion of the brewing and distilling restrictions; if the licensed trade of Ireland has suffered severe loss and that thousands of workers have been disemployed as a result of the restrictions; and if he will announce the Government's proposals for compensation?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir G. Cave)

I cannot add anything to previous statements upon this subject.

Mr. BYRNE

Would the right hon. Gentleman state when he can make some announcement? A number of these licensed houses have been closed, and the people have no other means of support. Could the right hon. Gentleman say what the Government propose to do?

Sir G. CAVE

I am afraid that I cannot make any announcement to-day.
