HC Deb 12 June 1917 vol 94 c771
7. Mr. WILES

asked the Undersecretary of State for War whether the Islington Special Constabulary has raised about £1,000 for the erection and equipment of a recreation hut for the use of wounded soldiers receiving treatment in the Great Northern Hospital, but that the War Office has withheld permission for its erection; and, having regard to the need there is for a room of this character, will he reconsider the attitude adopted?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I regret that it has been found necessary to refuse a permit for the erection of the hut, in view of the shortage of labour and timber.
