HC Deb 07 June 1917 vol 94 cc322-3
47. Captain BURGOYNE

asked the Prime Minister who was responsible, and what were the reasons, for forbidding publication of the names of the towns recently attacked by hostile aircraft; and, in view of the subsequent change of policy, what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. MACPHERSON

My right hon. Friend has requested me to answer this question. For various reasons the name of the town was withheld until the publication of the enemy's communiqué showed that there was no longer any necessity for secrecy.
