HC Deb 07 June 1917 vol 94 cc337-8
102. Mr. CHARLES DUNCAN

asked the hon. Member for Worcestershire (Bewdley Division) whether it is proposed to admit to examination for the position of preventive man in His Majesty's Customs and Excise those boy messengers employed in that Department who are being called to the Colours, previous to their entering military service, or whether the privileges enjoyed by these youths in respect to appointment to the position of preventive men, including relative seniority, will be secured to them on their return to civil life?

Mr. BALDWIN

Examinations for the position of preventive man are suspended for the time being, but arrangements have been made to secure to Customs and Excise boy messengers who are called up for military service the opportunity of attending an examination for this situation on their return to civil life.
