HC Deb 07 June 1917 vol 94 c307
19. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if his attention has been drawn to the wages paid to and hours worked by Irish chemists' assistants; if he will see that these men, especially those in houses holding Government contracts, will be paid a decent wage; and if he will see that Government contracts are not placed in houses where there is sweated labour?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Bridgeman)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. I would refer the hon. Member to my answer to his question of the 17th May. The question of the rates of wages paid by Government contractors is one that falls within the province of the contracting Departments concerned.
