HC Deb 06 June 1917 vol 94 cc145-6
7. Mr. KING

asked whether the recruiting officer for Stepney. Lieutenant Darcy, is of military age; what is his medical category; when he received his commission; what are his military experience and qualifications; and what part he took in the Whitechapel raid of 18th May?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

Lieutenant Darcy's age is thirty-six years nine months. He was rejected under the Derby scheme on 11th December, 1915, and in December, 1916, was passed fit for recruiting duties; he was accordingly gazetted as an officer for recruiting duties on the 29th January, 1917. In view of the general policy of the War Office he was recently sent before a Medical Board, when he was found not to be fit for general service in France, but capable of serving in a climate such as that of Egypt. Lieutenant Darcy had previously been a lieutenant in a cadet corps, but, apart from this, he has had no battalion training or military experience. He took no part in the raid in Whitechapel on the 18th May.
