HC Deb 06 June 1917 vol 94 c147
9. Mr. G. LAMBERT

asked if any orders have been issued regulating the slaughter of heifers and milch cows, in view of the coming milk scarcity next autumn and winter?

Mr. PROTHERO

No orders have been issued up to the present. The Board have taken steps to ascertain the number of milch cows in the country and to inform themselves of any considerable changes in these numbers as they arise. They are prepared to take such action as would encourage the production of milk should these figures indicate that any undue slaughter is taking place.
