HC Deb 13 July 1917 vol 95 c2294
39. Mr. BILLING

asked the Prime Minister if, having regard to the pace at which enemy banks in this country are being wound up and the supposition that the War may terminate before the process is completed, he will state whether the process will be continued or discontinued on such termination of the War?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can add nothing to the reply that I gave on the 10th instant to the hon. and gallant Member for the Torquay Division.

Mr. BILLING

In view of the position after the War, will the right hon. Gentleman say whether he is in favour of these banks being continued or not?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have already said that I hope the German banks will not come back. I can give no answer to a problematical question.
