§ 14. Mr. LYNCHasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give any news regarding the political situation in China, and particularly whether British residents in Pekin are in danger in consequence of the attempted usurpation on the part of the Imperialists?
Mr. BALFOURThe reports that have appeared in the Press as to the political situation in China are confirmed by His Majesty's representative at Pekin. No danger to foreigners is anticipated, but all possible precautions are being taken and the Foreign Legations have warned the 1589 Pekin Government that communications between the capital and the sea must be kept open.
