HC Deb 04 July 1917 vol 95 cc1115-6
18. Sir H. DALZIEL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give any information to the House in regard to the proposed visit to Russia of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade and the hon. Member for Leicester?

Lord R. CECIL

I have no information regarding the hon. Member for Leicester other than that which has already been given to the House and has appeared in the Press. As regards the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, he is at present engaged in the performance of his ordinary duties at that Department.

Sir H. DALZIEL

May I ask whether the decision of the Government is the same as it was in regard to this proposed visit some weeks ago, as stated by the Leader of the House; whether it is the case that they are still favourable to this visit; whether the Russian Government also desire it; and has the Noble Lord seen a statement by the secretary of the Seamen and Firemen's Union that the Government have made no private representations to them on the subject?

Lord R. CECIL

That is rather a large supplementary question. I am not aware of any change in the attitude of the Government on this question since my right hon. Friend explained it.
