Mr. CATHCART WASON(by Private Notice) asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that it is reported that persons after having been called up by the military have been told by the Board of Agriculture (Scotland) that they need not pay any attention to the summons, and if he will make the positon quite clear?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe War Office has issued clear instructions to its recruiting staff throughout the country giving effect to the War Cabinet decision. If any instructions such as are referred to in the question are being given they are unauthorised. If in any case they can show that the calling-up notices have been issued in error and if in such cases it were to happen that the recruiting officer did not cancel the notices, the representative of the other Government Department should at once communicate with his Department which would make the necessary representations to the War Office.
