HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 c1310
19. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if the export of timber from Cyprus is forbidden, and all wood required for the military operations in Egypt has had to be brought from Scandinavia; and whether steps will now be taken to develop the forest resources of Cyprus?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Long)

The exportation of timber from Cyprus is prohibited by law, but this prohibition has been relaxed in order to assist the troops in Egypt. What is possible is being done to develop the forest resources of Cyprus consistently with the pressing need for reafforestation in the island.
