HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 cc1337-8
92. Mr. PERCY HARRIS (Paddington, S.)

asked the President of the Board of Education whether the Raphael cartoons form part of the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum or whether they are deposited on loan; and, if the latter is the case, whether the consent of the lender was obtained before they were exposed to the admittedly additional risk of fire caused by filling the rooms immediately below the cartoons with inflammable material for the purposes of a fair?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Fisher)

The Raphael cartoons are deposited in the museum on loan and special precautions have been taken for their protection. As regards the latter part of the question, I do not think the position can be conveniently explained by way of question and answer in this House, but I shall be glad to give the hon. Member information on the subject.
