HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 cc1335-6
84. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called to the case of Mr. F. M. Thompson, of Grange-on-Sands, who has been ordered by the local tribunal to find work of national importance or join the Army; whether he is aware that this man, a widower age forty, lost his wife recently and was left with the care of nine children, their ages ranging from five weeks to fifteen years; whether he is aware that either course urged by the tribunal probably involves the breaking up of the home and the loss to the children of the supervision of both father and mother; and whether he will take steps to impress the importance of the proper care of these-nine children upon the tribunal and its chairman, the vicar of the parish?

Mr. HAYES FISHER

I am having inquiry made in this case.
