HC Deb 20 February 1917 vol 90 c1158
39. Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the Home Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the drivers of taxi-cabs have decided to call out ten men for every woman employed at the garage; if so, will he say if he proposes to take steps under the Defence of the Realm Act to prevent any action of this kind being taken; and, if not, what steps he proposes to take in the event of the men carrying out the threat mentioned?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir G. Cave)

I have been asked by the drivers of taxi-cabs to receive a deputation on the subject of women drivers, and hope shortly to receive the deputation. In the meanwhile I have no reason to believe that the drivers will take any such action as is described in the question.
