HC Deb 20 February 1917 vol 90 cc1151-2
24. Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware that some teachers who applied to their school boards for a war bonus after the announcement of the Treasury Grant towards such bonus had their application refused on the ground that no official information had been received from the Government; and whether such official information has now ben sent to all school boards?

Mr. MUNRO

No cases of the kind referred to in the question have come under my notice. Regulations containing full particulars as to the Grant-in-Aid of war bonuses for teachers have been approved by the Treasury and are now in the press. Copies will be sent to all school boards and other managers of schools on an early date.

Mr. SCOTT

Have these notices been sent to the school boards?

Mr. MUNRO

No, there was an intimation in the public Press to all concerned.

Mr. SCOTT

Is my right hon. Friend aware that a time limit has been fixed within which application for a war bonus under these conditions must be made and that this intimation to the Press was issued more than a month ago and will he undertake that it will now be in the hands of the school boards within the next two days?

Mr. MUNRO

I cannot give an undertaking of that sort with the printing conditions as they exist. Certainly no time will be lost.
