§ 6. Sir J. D. REESasked the Secretary of State for India whether the Indian Students' Department is to be maintained permanently at a total cost of upwards of £5,000 per annum; and whether the existence of this Department is due to an original recommendation by, or to a subsequent acquiescence on the part of, the Government of India?
§ Mr. CHAMBERLAINThere is no present intention of abolishing the Indian Students' Department, but a part of the work previously done by it has now been transferred to the university authorities of Oxford and Cambridge, and arrangements have been made which will reduce the cost. The Department was established by the Secretary of State in Council after an interchange of views with the Indian Government.
§ Sir J. D. REESIt is to be continued at a reduced cost?
