HC Deb 12 February 1917 vol 90 cc255-6
16. Mr. MACMASTER

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture if he will say when it is proposed to put the Summer Time (Daylight Saving) Regulation into operation; and whether he will consider the desirability, in the public interest, in view of the necessity for the greater production of vegetables and speeding seeding operations generally, of fixing the commencement of summer time as early as the 1st of April next?

38. Mr. CECIL HARMSWORTH

asked the Home Secretary whether he is in a position to say on what date daylight saving will be introduced this year?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir G. Cave)

I am afraid that I cannot make any statement on this subject until I have received the Report of the Committee appointed by my predecessor to inquire into the results of the Summer Time Act in 1916 and to make recommendations for the future. I understand that the Committee will present their Report very shortly—probably this week. The considerations referred to by my hon. and learned Friend have not been overlooked.
