HC Deb 26 April 1917 vol 92 cc2565-6
19 and 20. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chief Secretary (1) whether it has been brought to his notice that expulsion orders have been issued against Sean O'Murthville, Gaelic League organiser for county Clare, and Eamon Waldron, who succeeded him as organiser; whether the intention is to destroy the Gaelic League by such means; whether the Gaelic League is constituted as a lawful association; whether, if these proceedings are not aimed directly at the Gaelic League, he will advise the release of these gentlemen or at last formulate charges against them; (2) whether he can state the reasons that have led to the order excluding Eamon Waldron, Gaelic League organiser for Clare, from all parts of Ireland except Waterford; whether any charge has been formulated against Eamon Waldron or whether any kind of trial has taken place; and why he is restricted in particular to Waterford?

Mr. DUKE

As to Sean O'Murthville, whom I suppose to be John O'Hurley, of Limerick, his case cannot be distinguished from those of the other deported men. As to Eamon Waldron, I must refer to the answer given to the hon. Member for North Westmeath on Monday last.

Mr. LYNCH

Will the right hon. Gentleman prevent a report of these proceedings reaching Russia?

Mr. DUKE

I shall not take any special action in that respect.
