HC Deb 26 April 1917 vol 92 cc2581-2
65. Mr. M'KEAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in framing his forthcoming Budget, he will have due regard to the fact that while the taxation of Ireland has increased since the beginning, and as a consequence, of the present War the taxable capacity of that country has, for various reasons, including the restrictions imposed on the trading community, seriously diminished; and whether he will be prepared to make such remissions of taxation as Ireland is entitled to under the circumstances mentioned in accordance with the terms of the Act of Union?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I cannot anticipate my Budget statement. But I must not be taken as accepting the implications in the question.

Mr. FLAVIN

Can the right hon. Gentleman state definitely if the Budget will be taken on Monday next, as there are rumours to the contrary?

Mr. BONAR LAW

As I intended to state in reply to a question, I hope to take the Budget on Wednesday next.
